Notater - The following is the family recollection about Christian Jessen Hansen, according to his great-grandson Robert Hansen:
We have been told that Christian Jessen Hansen was born on October 6 or 7, 1870 and that he arrived at Crows Landing or Newman, California when he was 18 years old (which would have been about 1888). We were told that when he got to California that the German consul tracked him down and told him he would need to return to Germany to serve in the German army. Apparently, with some intervention by the American consulate, he was able to stay and continue living and working in California.
Christian had an older sister named Maren Hansen who worked as a seamstress in San Francisco and was married at about age 50 to a Mr. Beck. Christian also had older brothers in the lumber business in Schleswig-Holstein in a town with the name spelled "Skaabeck" (as written down by my mother when she interviewed my father's dad). Apparently, one of Christian's older brothers was known for a 6 X 12 wooden sculpture of the Last Supper that he carved (he also carved a dining room set).
