Paul Tarnow/Tarnovvius (Paulus Tarnovius) was born in 1562 the son of Johannes Tarnov, the "B?germeister" (mayor) of Grevesm?hlen, and his wife Magdalene Greve. Johannes didn't use the name "Tarnovius" - this version of the name seems to have been used only by the university educated members of the family. In 1575 he and his brother Herman went to live in L?beck to study at the "Katharineum" (Latin school), they also had relatives in L?beck. But in 1578 they had to flee the plague and went to L?neburg. In 1579 Paul was "immatriculated" (enrolled) at the University of Rostock, but because of lack of funds he couldn't begin his studies until 1581. On Augusat 23, 1593 he obtained his "Magister" status and became the rector of the Rostock Latin school founded in 1579/80. In 1597 he became the head of the faculty for philosophy and in 1604 he was promoted to Doctor in Theology. He was married in 1596 to Anna Schultze, daughter of a prominent Rostock citizen (no name mentioned). They had four children: no names mentioned besides the youngest daughter Anna who was the only child to outlive him (she died on March 2, 1669), she was married to Joachim Stockmann, a professor of Medicine and Physics in Rostock. Paul died in 1633 and was buried on April 9, 1633 in the Jacobikirche in Rostock.
Paul's brother was Herman Tarnovius, he was a priest in Grevesm?hlen. He was married to Margrethe Bremer, daughter of Christian Bremer a prominent citizen somewhere in North Germany or Denmark. Christian Bremer had three children that are known of: 1) Margrethe, married to Herman Tarnovius, 2) Frederik, a "k?bmand" (merchant) in K?benhavn, and 3) Johan, a prominent citizen in Hamburg, who is mentioned in 1603 and died around 1650. Frederik's son Christian Frederik was a priest in L?beck (died 1701), he was married to Ursula Cathrine Lindeman/Linnemann, the daughter of a priest in St. Petri Church in K?benhavn, she was first married to Johan Johansen (Johannes Johannii) Tarnovius/Tarnow, who was born in Rostock on November 24, 1624. So apparently Johannes Tarnovius in Rostock did have children after all even though no wife and children are mentioned in the encyclopedias. Ursula's second marriage was to Christian Frederik Bremer. The Johannes Johansen Tarnovius who was at St. Petri in K?benhavn, would be a cousin of Karen Christensdatter (if she is the daughter of Christian Tarnovius), and so she would have had close relatives in Rostock at the time of her marriage in 1643.
Herman Tarnovius and Margrethe Bremer had two sons: Johan and Christian. Johan was born April 19, 1586 and died on January 22, 1629, he moved to Rostock to live with his uncle Paul, and was later made professor of theology at the university in Rostock; no wife or children are mentioned.
All of Paul's children beside Anna died as children or young and none of them were married and had children. So there is only one Christian Tarnovius - the brother of Johan Tarnovius in Rostock - who could be the father of Jacob Christensen Klinte's wife Karen. But it is unclear how Karen was married in Rostock - either her father Christian was in Rostock too or she must have gone to live with her father's cousin Anna who was then the only Tarnovius left in town. She was clearly not Anna's daughter, as her husband was named Joachim and her children were using the name Stochmann.
