- The father of Jacob, Hans and Claus D?sien/Desin may have been an immigrant and/or refugee from Germany; possibly he came from the village of D?sen, in the Free State of Saxony (Freistaat Sachsen). D?sen was incorporated into the city of Leipzig in 1910; it is located 7 kilometers south-southeast of Leipzig. According to the "Digitales Historisches Ortsverzeichnis von Sachsen" in 1305 the village of D?sen was first mentioned in writing as "Dosene"; and later has been spelled variously as: D?sin in 1350, Do?en in 1482, and finally as D?sen in 1791. During the Thirty Years' War the Swedes burned D?sen, and some of its neighboring villages, down on January 3, 1637. During the Battle of Leipzig the village was hotly contested and changed hands several times during the battle. - Norman Lee Madsen, November 26, 2012.
