- Johannes (d.?.) Uff. See articles by Sigvard Mahler Dam in SAXO: 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1988. And the article "Stranges?nnerne", Personalhistorisk tidsskrift, 1993, page 1. Johannes Uff is thought to be from an old soldier-family, and as such acted as a "forloverne" (promise giver); in 1299 he promised Archbishop Jens Grand free entry to K?benhavn.
The following is a translation of the article "De bornholmske v?bnersl?gter Uf og Splid - noget nyt om deres v?bener", written by Sigvard Mahler Dam, published in the Heraldisk Tidsskrift, 1982: A "Johannes dictus Wff" is the first known member of the Uf-family is mentioned in 1299 - he must be the father of the hitherto oldest known member. Coat of arms (v?ben) carrying "Niels Wf" (aka Nicolaus Wf), is mentioned with "his father" in 1302.
From the "Dansk adelsv?bner, en heraldisk n?gle", by Sven Tito Achen, Politikens Forlag, 1973, K?benhavn:
Uf "I". V?ben: En sparre (r?d i hvidt? se Heraldisk Tidsskrift nr. 23, 1971, side 111). (Coat of arms: A chevron (red on white?) see H.T.) Hjelmfigur unkendt. (Helmet unknown.) Uradel, Sk?ne. (Noble origins: Sk?ne.) Niels Uf 1302; Oluf Ottesen, landsdommer p? Bornholm 1522. NDA side 299.
Sigvard Mahler Dam now speculates that Johannes Uf might be related to the "Sparre-K?s" families of Kaas and L?ndi from Jylland, which used an identical coat of arms; and further, that the Uf family origins are not in Sk?ne, but rather in Jylland.
